Flexible Workspaces as an Employee
As a tech worker, locational flexibility is at an all time high. Making the most of this and working from the beach, the forest or anywhere you desire
is entirely dependent on the employees mindset. Whilst working from home, you have the obligation
to keep your mental in the best state possible and so doing things you love positively impacts your work.
Your entire value is intellectual and hence being stuck at home like in a traditional workplace is just a stigma to raise comfort. Nobody cares where or how you do it, as long as you do it.
You are the only one holding the shackles; look after yourself.
How to start
Be impulsive!
One day during lunch, drive or walk somewhere you want to go instead of eating. Take checklist items with you and see if you can survive til the end of the day. Setup somewhere with a nice view and a bench. Put headphones on and see how you do. You will likely determine that some stuff isnt installed on your laptop, write this down and install it when home next time. Same with checklist items you needed.
Be inspired and dream a little, itll become easier the more you do it.
Ideas of nice spots
- Beach
- Bushwalk in a canyon
- Botanical Garden
- Community farm
- City Park
Checklist of things to take:
- Laptop
- Phone (with ability to hotspot)
- Tea towel to put under your laptop (if you have a chunky case)
- Battery pack, to get you through the whole day
- Snacks and Water, very important to save money.
- Jumper, incase the location is windy or cold
- Headphone, it can be easy to get wrapped up in what everyone else at the spot are doing... get into your own world and the time will go quicker.
- Alcohol wipes and tissues, if you work at the beach spray or rain can make it annoying to use laptop
